2013 — What a year it’s been at Bethesda! Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the employees and volunteers, and the support of our residents (and their families) and our donors, we truly have had an amazing year.

We have celebrated achievements and awards on the national and local levels, including being named a finalist in the “Best Places to Work in St. Louis” for the second straight year. Another top local achievement occurred when we beat out some top organizations in the metropolitan area to win the Arcus Award for Educational Attainment from the St. Louis Regional Chamber.

Nationally, we received our second consecutive “Spirit of Innovation” award at the annual LINK conference in Chicago. And in a defining moment that reflected the hard work of the entire Bethesda team, we were chosen as the winner of the 2013 Pathways to Greatness award from LeadingAge, the top professional organization in the senior care industry. The award was received at their annual conference in Dallas.

We must humbly pay tribute to the generosity of the Bethesda “family,” as the amount of humanitarian care funds made available to help our independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing residents who have outlived their means to pay for their housing or their care (more than $13 million) reached a new level.

We continue to concentrate on technology advancements and ways to help lower re-hospitalization rates — and are making an impact in both of these areas.

In fact, your ability to read this article in this format is an achievement, as we revamped our website and launched our blog… as well as our Facebook page… in 2013.

But as great as 2013 was, 2014 promises to be monumental, as the organization celebrates its 125th anniversary! Plenty of activities are in the plans, and more information will be shared on our website and Facebook page (and perhaps another blog!).

So thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting Bethesda… and have a happy and healthy 2014!
